Ask the customer for information regarding upcoming orders so there are no short-notice surprises.
Verify the order back to the customer to ascertain the accuracy of the information. Inform the customer of warnings concerning product hazards, load limits, vehicle weights and limitations.
Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.).
May maintain records of expenses and drivers.
Assigns appropriate equipment and personnel for completion of duties and deliveries.
Sell the customer on the most advantageous job start times to maintain a "flat" truck demand graph in order to minimize the trucks and drivers called to work.
Work together with lead dispatch with daily operations.
Directs activities of drivers and confers with customers, plant production and yard personnel.
Quotes prices and receives orders for company products.
Keeps supervisor and drivers informed of tasks and situations so the schedule can be updated.
Backup for lead dispatch.
Answers phone to take/alter customer's order and complete all required information. Ensure the customer understands all relevant company policies such as “will calls”, additional products over amount ordered, towing charges, and our driver's responsibilities.
Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors
Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
Properly file the order and special instructions and give adequate notice to ensure proper materials are available.
Obtains all pertinent information from customer including but not limited to: customer code, name and relevant credit information; project or quote number and job name; delivery address and instructions to the jobsite; required numbers such as PO, lot/block, customer job number; number of unloading sites; use of the aggregate; desired job start time; delivery rate in spacing, quantity per hour or number of trucks; travel time to and from the jobsite; any restrictions in load size; special truck types required or not desired whether the order is a "go" or "will call". If “will call”, agree on a time of day to release and agree what will happen if the call is not received.
May issue equipment to drivers.
Prepares delivery tickets, and related shipping documents.
Tracks and reports time off/attendance of drivers and personnel.

Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written). Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.

General education, grammar and arithmetic, GED or high school diploma or equivalent.
Driver License preferred.
