The Lead Designer will support, develop, and deliver HV and EHV transmission and distribution line projects ranging from 2 kV to 500 kV. Responsibilities include independent engineering, detailed design drawings, studies, plan and profile documents, bidding packages, specifications, bills of material, shop‑drawing review, procurement and construction documents with minimal supervision. The role coordinates closely with civil, substation, high‑voltage electrical, telecommunications and geotechnical engineers to produce complete Issue‑for‑Construction packages. Additionally, the incumbent may act as project manager or technical design lead, mentor junior team members, and perform quality assurance/quality control on design deliverables.
Arcadis is seeking a highly motivated Lead Transmission Line Designer for its Power Delivery & Renewable team in the United States. The role sits within the Power Delivery & Renewable unit and reports to project management and engineering teams, working closely with substation, distribution, protection & control, and system planning groups as well as other Arcadis business divisions. The position focuses on coordinating the renewable energy team and delivering hands‑on transmission (HVAC/HVDC) engineering for utility and developer clients across North America.
Candidates must hold an associate degree in Engineering Technology or an equivalent accreditation and possess at least ten years of experience on transmission and distribution line projects up to 500 kV. Proficiency with PLS‑CADD (and preferably PLS‑POLE or PLS‑TOWER), AutoCAD, and MicroStation is required, as is the ability to design HV/EHV transmission packages in compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and local codes. Preferred qualifications include strong AutoCAD 3D skills and substation design experience.
