Field Engineer/Field Geologist

Description

• Operate high‑resolution site‑characterization and geophysical equipment (e.g., SCPTu, VST, MASW) safely and productively.
• Obtain company certification to use various geotechnical testing tools.
• Coordinate equipment mobilization and demobilization logistics for remote or hard‑to‑access sites.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct field testing, collecting data, samples, notes, and photos accurately and promptly.
• Compile daily data and submit reports to engineers, supervisors, or clients.
• Prepare comprehensive final field reports.
• Adhere to ConeTec’s safety culture and follow all safe operating procedures.
• Report safety incidents, infractions, or near‑misses immediately to the Project Manager and HSE Officer.
• Communicate equipment issues and field observations to supervisors or project managers.
• Manage multiple tasks, prioritize workloads, and adapt to flexible schedules and variable workloads.

Requirements

The Field Engineer/Field Geologist role is highly adaptable, encompassing duties such as field engineering, assistant operations, and assistant geophysics, depending on evolving workplace demands. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, as well as solid problem‑solving abilities, and be prepared for significant travel.

Key objectives for the position include gaining experience across commercial development, environmental, construction and infrastructure sectors, expanding skill sets through training and certifications, completing complex site‑investigation programs throughout North America, and supporting business development with a broad skill repertoire.

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, applied science, geology, geophysics, or a related field (preferred).
• Maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean record; experience with large vehicles is a plus.
• Work effectively in remote locations (~30% out‑of‑town) and tolerate long workdays (10‑12+ hours).
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lb, climbing, crawling, and working in varied weather conditions.
• Possess electrical/mechanical technical skills and data processing/report preparation abilities (assets).
• Demonstrate strong work ethic, professional representation, and the ability to work independently or in a team.
• Exhibit effective communication, relationship‑building, and decision‑making skills in remote settings.
• Commit to a safety‑oriented mindset and be willing to undergo fit‑for‑duty, drug/alcohol testing, and criminal background checks.
