  • Act as an advisor to the client’s construction/project manager
  • Apply diversified knowledge of construction engineering principles and practices and independently making decisions on significant construction engineering problems.
  • Responsible for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.
  • Monitor quality control and quality assurance for material field testing for concrete, steel, asphalt, soils and other materials, as applicable
  • Provide design for minor changes and make design estimates for contract change orders.
  • Prepare RE daily/weekly/monthly reports in accordance with the project's requirements
  • Provide guidance to inspectors and staff in carrying out their day-to-day duties
  • Manage and supervise sub-consultants support services
  • Review and provide interpret complex contract issues as called upon by the client’s construction manager/project manager
  • Perform analytical calculations for items such as basic earthwork and grading, special staking procedures and redesigning facilities to fit existing field conditions.
  • Maintain continuous communication with client’s Project/Construction Manager, WSP Project Manager, field personnel, public outreach personnel, third parties, and with construction administration staff in accordance with project requirements.
  • Represent project(s) at meetings and conferences
  • Supervise field inspection and field office personnel
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform inspections and review work to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of Highway construction, such as paving, structures, grading, drainage, utility relocation, electrical installation, sign installation, and landscaping items.
  • Perform quantity calculations for progress pay estimates and keep project records.
  • Manage technical field staff
  • Provide field measurements and assist in compiling monthly quantity reports for payment of quantities and changes in the work.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex construction management projects or programs, serving as a Resident Engineer supervising construction engineering and inspection activities
  • Provide general inspections on construction labor and subcontractor work to assure a good and workmanlike operation

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Valid, current California Driver's license
  • Site development experience preferred
  • Ability to make effective decisions concerning field problems and work in progress.
  • A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • An ability to read and completely understand contract documents is required.
  • Resident Engineer Skills
  • Licensed professional civil engineer in CA
  • A working knowledge of applicable Construction codes, standards, and material is required.
  • BSCE degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of construction practices.
  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience, 5 directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles
  • Caltrans experience a plus
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
