The Critical Engineering Technician will be a part of the Operations team reporting to the Critical Facilities Manager and will perform maintenance on critical facility equipment. The Critical Engineering Technician plays a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our hyperscale, multi-building data center campus. This hands-on position is responsible for ensuring the uptime, reliability, and performance of critical facility systems. Critical Engineering Technicians perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and rapid response to alarms or incidents involving power, cooling, and networking equipment. The Critical Engineering Technician works across multiple areas, including critical equipment support spaces, that demand precision and strict adherence to operational protocols. This position coordinates with internal teams such as operations, engineering, and security, as well as external vendors and contractors. Critical Engineering Technicians are detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced, 24/7 mission-critical environments. The role offers opportunities for growth and advancement within the data center industry and is foundational to the reliability and scalability of hyperscale infrastructure.
From site selection to data center construction and operations, Stream develops wholesale colocation capacity and build-to-suit facilities for hyperscale and enterprise users in major markets across the United States. Additionally, Stream sources and develops low-risk land sites for optimum data center development and provides energy procurement services with a focus on reducing market risk and providing low-cost renewable energy options.
- Work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, network, and project teams to coordinate site-wide activities.
- Monitor Building Management System (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) dashboards for alarms and anomalies.
- Escort vendors and contractors during maintenance or installation activities, ensuring badge compliance and activity logging.
- Perform extended site rounds that could include long distances of walking and long periods of time being away from a desk. Use hands to manipulate small wires and objects.
- Comply with Stream Data Centers departmental policies, including all EHS policies and procedures.
- Perform physical tasks, including moving heavy equipment ( up to 50 pounds), operating critical infrastructure, crawling in tight spaces.
- Participate in technical training and certification programs to maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment and best practices.
- Execute preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on critical infrastructure including UPS, FCUs, CRAH/CRACs, chillers, generators, and electrical switchgear.
- Participate in team meetings, shift handovers, and post-mortem reviews to share knowledge and support cross-functional collaboration.
- Perform all standard and non-standard activities in accordance with Stream Data Centers' operating procedures or maintenance work instructions.
- Perform rounds inspecting mechanical, electrical, and fire/life safety systems (MEP/FLS) throughout the building and equipment yards.
- Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for all equipment related activity support site management to resolve site issues based on priorities.
- Perform BMS operations and effectively analyze data to ensure proper functions of all critical systems.

- Work in a noisy environment with ear protection and eye protection; potential to work at heights and from ladders
- Familiarity with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), and their application to work orders
- Proficient with computer systems including documents, spreadsheets, and email
- Working knowledge of mechanical, controls, and fire and life safety systems
- 5+ years' experience in a critical operations environment, preferably in the data center industry
- Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
- 2+ years' experience in an industry that includes operations & maintenance
- Experience scheduling and planning maintenance for large-scale, complex systems in an operations environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The pay range for this role is between $35/hour - $45/hour. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related reasons.
