Journeyman Plumber

Description

The Pipefitter will install, maintain, and inspect HVAC, utility, and process piping systems, working with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, fiberglass, and copper using methods like brazing, soft soldering and pro‑press. Responsibilities include proper fit‑up for butt and socket welding, leak testing, and installing pipe, fittings, valves, appliances, and fixtures with hand or power tools.

• Attend assigned work locations, including offices and project sites.
• Work with carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, fiberglass, copper, and various joining methods such as brazing, soft soldering, and pro‑press.
• Install and maintain HVAC, utility, and process piping systems, including heating hot water, chilled water, steam, condensate, compressed air, process fluids, chemical, refrigeration, and fuel‑oil systems.
• Perform proper pipe fit‑up for open‑root butt and socket welding and test pipes or fixtures for leaks.
• Install pipe, fittings, valves, appliances, and fixtures using hand or power tools.
• Detect faulty equipment or defective materials and report findings to supervisors.
• Direct helpers or apprentices in appropriate tasks.
• Locate and mark pipe installation positions, connections, and passage holes using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels.
• Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe to required angles with hand tools, pipe cutters, threading machines, or bending machines.
• Follow plans, instructions, and strict safety and quality rules.
• Maintain thorough documentation, record‑keeping, and perform occasional clerical duties.
• Develop daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHA); knowledge of industrial construction is preferred.

Requirements

The Pipefitter position is located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and is a full‑time, day‑shift role in the construction category. It requires a high school education and involves no travel.

The role demands regular attendance at assigned locations, accurate measurement, cutting, threading, and bending of pipe, and the ability to locate and mark installation points using rulers or levels. The Pipefitter also detects faulty equipment or defective materials, reports issues to supervisors, and directs helpers or apprentices as needed.

Essential skills include the ability to work independently or in a team, strict adherence to safety and quality standards, courteous interaction with co‑workers and clients, and diligent documentation and record‑keeping, with occasional clerical duties.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or comparable field experience, at least five years of field experience, a state trade license, OSHA 10 certification, and the capability to develop daily Job Hazard Analyses. Knowledge of industrial construction is preferred.
