Assembler

Description

The Assembler assembles components into finished electrical units, switchgear and related products according to blueprints, work instructions or diagrams. Responsibilities include performing quality checks, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and reporting any defects to supervisors. Attention to detail, manual dexterity and teamwork are essential. The role reports to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Assembly department.

The position operates without direct supervision, and the employee is expected to follow guidance from senior and lead assemblers.

• Build and assemble mechanical components for switchgear and/or breaker units per engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Perform maintenance and proper use of tools.
• Conduct in‑process inspections, follow standard work instructions and identify potential product‑quality risks.
• Execute all ship‑prep functions, including splitting gear.
• Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
• Keep work areas clean and well organized.
• Values customers as essential to current success and future growth.
• Learns and adheres to manufacturing policies and ISO requirements.
• Work at heights up to 20 ft on elevated structures using proper lift and fall‑protection equipment.
• Maintain body equilibrium and agility while walking, standing, crouching, or climbing stairs or ladders.
• Bend at the waist and knees and extend arms and hands in any direction.
• Perform continuous standing and walking.
• Use upper extremities frequently, working with both arms above shoulder level.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• Ability to read a tape measure and convert between fractional, decimal, metric and imperial units.
• Basic knowledge of various hand and power tools.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb using proper lifting techniques.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Proficient written and verbal English.
• Interest or experience in building or repairing mechanical components.
• Ability to read spec sheets and follow hardware specifications.
• Basic knowledge of one‑line and three‑line drawings.
• Safety‑training certificates are an asset.
• Ability to follow direction from senior and lead assemblers.
• Demonstrates on‑time delivery and focus on goals and responsibilities.
• Self‑starter able to handle multiple tasks with a drive to succeed.
• Adapts to new ideas, technology, processes or product changes.
• Demonstrates integrity and ethical decision‑making.

• Safety‑sensitive position in a temperature‑controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, hard hat, bump cap, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses and respirators when needed.
• Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, A‑frame ladders, etc.).
• Lift up to 50 lb.
• Frequent use of hand and power tools.
