Provides integrated civil engineering, surveying, landscape architecture & geotechnical consulting.
The Project Engineer leads a technical staff that may include a project staff engineer and/or CAD Designer, with the entire team reporting to a Project Manager. The role requires independent planning, execution, and oversight of engineering tasks to bring projects to completion. This position balances technical leadership with hands‑on engineering work.
Core responsibilities include preparing engineering analyses, designs, calculations, and reports for all or part of a project, as well as designing grading, drainage, and utility piping systems such as sanitary, water, fire protection, and storm drainage. The engineer also conducts hydrology and hydraulic calculations for gravity and pressure systems, creates drawings, specifications, and assists in proposal and fee estimate preparation.
The role demands collaboration with dynamic design teams—landscape architects, planners, attorneys, owners, and facility managers—and includes construction‑related tasks like responding to RFIs, site visits, reviewing submittals, and coordinating revisions. The engineer also prepares plan reviews, permit applications, zoning analyses, and presents technical information to clients and internal staff, while mentoring junior engineers.
Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and the ability to obtain a Michigan PE license. Candidates must have at least five years of progressively responsible engineering experience, strong proficiency in AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred), and solid skills in standard civil‑engineering software. Desired personal attributes include self‑motivation, teamwork, effective communication, time management, problem‑solving, and meticulous attention to detail.
The position is primarily office‑based but involves occasional field work for inspections and site visits, requiring ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 lb, and use hand‑eye coordination. It is a full‑time role, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with possible overtime and limited travel depending on project locations.
