Description

The Project Accountant reports to the Lead Project Accountant and works within the Project Accounting Team in Amarillo, TX. The role supports the accounting department and various internal and external stakeholders, monitoring project progress, investigating variances, approving expenses, issuing billings and collecting payments.

• Process bi‑monthly and monthly subcontractor billings and all material invoices.
• Develop and maintain project files, forms, purchase orders, subcontract documentation and meeting minutes.
• Support bimonthly client billing and prepare quarterly accounting reports for the corporate office.
• Obtain tax documentation to support subcontract billing cycles and owner tax‑exemption requirements.
• Ensure data requirements align with established budgets and schedules.
• Track and report accounting indicators.
• Copy, file and distribute jobsite correspondence.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Management preferred.
• Minimum three years of accounting or office‑management experience in construction, engineering or architecture.
• Experience with cost accounting, AP/AR, contract administration, invoice processing/auditing and construction industry practices.
• Prior experience in a similar construction accounting role preferred.
• Proficient with Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, sub‑totaling) preferred.
• Experience with Tier I accounting or ERP software; familiarity with Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise‑One desired.
• Ability to organize technical data accurately and perform advanced job costing.
• Strong teamwork, communication, time‑management and multitasking abilities in high‑pressure environments.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather, climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds, and access confined spaces.
• Must lift/manipulate up to 50 lb to a height of three feet and carry 50‑100 ft.
• Must wear hearing protection when needed and possess visual acuity for close‑vision tasks.
