  • Communication: Clearly communicate compliance reports, field inspection summaries, and related documentation to project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies through written correspondence and verbal updates.
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by site conditions.
  • Project support: Help coordinate field inspections and activities, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with permits. Track project progress, review field reports, and verify environmental compliance against project requirements.
  • Interpersonal savvy: Collaborate effectively with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary project teams. Build strong working relationships to align environmental compliance efforts with overall project objectives.
  • Problem solving: Evaluate site conditions, project activities, and regulatory requirements to identify potential compliance challenges. Contribute to practical solutions that balance environmental protection with project needs.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
  • Driver’s license: Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Experience with state and federal environmental regulations, permitting processes (including EAW and EIS), and/or field compliance for utility corridor projects.
  • Software: Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets. Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Work environment: Ability to work in locations that may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants will be required to participate in a drug screening program. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to safely operate or work around environmental monitoring and sampling equipment.
  • Travel expectation: Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (including up to 25% travel and up to 75% fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time).
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in varying outdoor conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in physical, natural, or environmental science, or related degree.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
  • Technical knowledge: Apply environmental science, regulatory knowledge, and foundational environmental principles to support environmental inspections and carry out site investigations.
  • GPA: Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Experience with soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, construction storm water plans, and site restoration plans.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
