Respond at a moment’s notice to HAZMAT Emergency Responses including responding to rail, road, and fixed facilities.
Assist with organizing all resources required in both a response situation and in preparation for a potential response situation, including personnel, equipment, and documentation.
Ensure all emergency response equipment is operationally ready including preparation, equipment decontamination, and servicing of ER equipment as outlined and required.
Promote and lead GFL’s safety programs by conducting safety meetings, safe work plans and job hazard assessments
Track daily project hours, consumables, waste disposal volumes, etc. and report accurately to Emergency Response Manager
Coordinate service on site and oversee work performed for safety and quality excellence including understanding scopes of work and leading without deviation.
Perform chemical transloading from one means of containment to another. This may include tank cars, tank trucks, fixed facility tanks, or other small means of containment.
Ensure all relevant information and documentation is gathered and maintained when providing emergency services.
Assist with incident investigations including corrective action development
Accountable for upholding the GFL safety and service standards within the division
Engage in site visits with clients and collect appropriate information to ensure project success
Participate in live training events.
Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following GFL procedures, completing safety documentation, and upholding GFL’s high level of safety.
Overlap with environmental remediation services including working with excavation equipment
Lead major industrial plant shutdowns including planning work, leading operations, and compiling required documentation for project closure
Perform chemical neutralization and decontamination as required.

Experience in handling and/or transporting hazardous materials or emergency response would be an asset.
Professionally represent GFL
Knowledge of industrial equipment and the ability to operate industrial equipment
Physically fit and able to wear chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection from time to time as required.
Any prior training or experience relating to the following would be an asset: HAZMAT Technician, Tank car Specialist, Tank truck Specialist, ICS, Confined Space Entry, etc. Please note extensive training will be provided by GFL to the successful candidate including commodity specific training, advanced air monitoring, and more.
Knowledge and/or experience with vacuum trucks and power wash equipment would be an asset.
Meticulous, organized and motivated
Ability to be flexible and fulfill the on-call and travel requirements of this position.
Ability to work out of town from time to time as needed.
Excellent communication skills
A Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving abstract is required; Valid Class 1 or 3 driver’s license would be highly desirable.
