- Diagnosis and Repair - Diagnosing vehicle and equipment failures using electronic testing equipment, service and equipment repair manuals and on-line resources. Performing repairs and overhauls to all types of automobiles, equipment and tools to include engines, transmissions, driveline components, electrical and computer systems, fuel injection systems, air conditioning, heating and ventilation systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic components and air brakes. Recommending outsourcing for major repairs when needed.
- Welding Repair and Fabrication - Designing, fabricating, modifying and welding components to repair, rebuild or replace parts.
- Customer Focus – gains insights into customer needs; identifies opportunities that benefit the customer; builds and delivers solutions that meet customer expectations; establishes and maintains rapport with the customer.
- Maintain communications with supervisor.
- Manages area(s) of responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Backup Fuel Site Manager – Receive Fuel deliveries, perform monthly fuel site inspections, ensure all paperwork is maintained in accordance with client policies in the absent of the fuel site manager. Maintain AFMP Class C Underground Storage Tank Operator and Fire Extinguisher certification.
- Not knowingly make a false or fraudulent statement.
- Virginia State Inspections - Performing safety inspections under the guidelines of the Virginia State Police inspection program for vehicles and equipment.
- Preventative Maintenance - Performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment according to PM schedule and guidelines. Making repairs as needed when deficiencies are found and/ or recommend outsourcing.
- Reports all safety accidents, incidents and/or concerns appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Not knowingly conduct or condone any illegal or improper activity.
- Collaborates – works cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared goals; represents own interests while being fair to others and their area; partners with others to get work done; credits others for their contributions and accomplishments; gains trust and support of others.
- Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
- Information Processing and Paperwork - Preparing, processing, and maintaining required maintenance and repair documentation. Generating, completing and closing-out work orders in the computer system. Performing time and leave entry. Preparing parts requests. Completing paperwork for warranty inspections and repairs.
- Keep abreast of weather forecasts for duty readiness in reporting.
- Communicate effectively one-one, in small or large groups, among diverse styles and positions at all levels; attentively listens to others; adjusts to fit the audience and the message; provides timely and helpful information to others across the organization; encourages the open expression of driver’s ideas and opinions.

- Emergency Operations - Preparing equipment for emergency operations. Making equipment repairs to reduce downtime during emergency operations to include on-the-road repairs.

- Ability to read and comprehend service and equipment repair manuals, gauges and testing devices.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automotive, construction and maintenance equipment.
- ASE certifications or demonstrated equivalent highly preferred.
- Ability to obtain a minimum Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and DOT medical card within timeline established at time of hire and maintain thereafter.
- Virginia State Police Equipment Inspection License or demonstrated ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- AFMP Class C Underground Storage Tank Operator and Fire Extinguisher Certification or demonstrated ability to obtain within 11 months of hire.
- Ability to operate various types of light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to obtain a Virginia State Police Equipment Inspection License within timeline established at time of hire.
- Knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication operations, and skilled in the use of cutting and welding equipment.
- Fast-paced, multi-tasking environment subject to short or no-notice work assignments and exposure to inclement weather.
- Knowledge of general shop procedures
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- A fingerprint based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) will be conducted prior to employment.
- Minimum Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and DOT medical card. preferred or demonstrated ability to obtain within 11 months of hire.
- Virginia Driver’s License in good standing
- Drug Screening will be conducted prior to employment.
- Demonstrates and routinely practices safety behaviors as a condition of employment.
- Ability to solve problems, work independently and accomplish work tasks within rigid time constraints.
- Ability to obtain the Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certification within timeline established at time of hire and maintain thereafter.
- Ability to independently perform major repairs and maintenance on a variety of diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment.
- Be prepared to operate appropriate equipment in all kinds of weather.
- Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certification preferred or demonstrated ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools and advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to shop operations.
- Required VDOT/Industry training.
- Weekend, evening, and overtime work may be required. Standing for prolonged periods of time, walking, lifting, carrying; frequently reaching, kneeling, climbing, bending, twisting, crouching, and balancing can be expected.
- Vocational or technical training in automotive and equipment repair and diagnostics preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for education. Demonstrated equivalent required.
- $24.00 - $36.00 Hourly
