Field Technician

Description

The Field Technician will perform on‑site reviews of poles and other electric facilities for aerial and underground distribution projects, coordinating with the design team and, when needed, explaining project intentions to property owners. This remote‑based position serves the Richmond, Virginia area and requires the incumbent to reside within two hours of Richmond.

• Use a digital camera, measuring wheel or laser range finder, smart device, and angle finder for field data collection.
• Capture pole identification markings, height/class, and birthmarks during site inspections.
• Record centerline measurements, offsets, mile markers, attachment heights, and down‑ and span‑guy locations.
• Sketch site layout with measurements to nearby obstructions and note existing equipment.
• Obtain GPS coordinates and photograph site conditions.
• File collected data in the system, create folders, download photos, and submit daily status reports.
• Scan notes and measurements, save them into organized folders.
• Conduct safety briefings outlining critical work steps, associated hazards, and control measures.

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications: associate degree preferred or 2 years experience with power distribution/telecommunications and a clean driver’s license for the past five years.
• Preferred qualifications: AutoCAD proficiency; familiarity with IKE Device, ikeGPS, Hot Stick; high‑level understanding of utility, telecommunications, or power design engineering; knowledge of NEC, NESC, and Katapult or similar equipment.
