The Real Time Trader role optimizes PGE’s energy resources by buying and selling electricity on an hourly and daily basis while monitoring reservoir levels, wind forecasts and fuel supply. The trader develops hourly bids, schedules short‑term inter‑utility exchanges, negotiates contracts and implements market strategies to balance supply and demand and meet revenue objectives. Decisions directly influence the reliability and sustainability of power delivery throughout the Western power markets.
A bachelor's degree in mathematics, finance, economics or a related discipline and at least five years of experience in the energy sector are required, with a preference for backgrounds in generation dispatch or real‑time plant operations. The candidate must possess intermediate knowledge of bulk power generation, transmission systems, regional markets, contract law and water‑management policies, as well as strong analytical, decision‑making and communication abilities.
The position involves a hybrid office environment with a variable schedule, on‑call duties and occasional travel within the service territory. Physical demands include regular computer use and the ability to work during severe weather. Compensation ranges from $100,350 to $167,250, plus performance‑based incentives and a comprehensive total rewards package.
