Overview

Conduct building code reviews, fire protection analysis, and coordinate design teams.

Tasks

-Conduct and document assigned work such as building code analyses, egress analyses, basic fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews and sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations. -Assist in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project. -Apply engineering calculations such as sizing the required means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment. -Collaborate and work under the direction of engineers to support Code Consulting, Fire Protection engineering and/or security design efforts. This may include assistance with the preparation of Building Code Compliance Reports, Fire Code Compliance Reports, Code Compliance Drawings, and detailed drawing reviews. -Effectively communicate with project team members, clients and others. -Perform professional-level Code Consulting services such as life safety consulting, performance-based fire engineering design, under the direction of a registered engineer or an experienced consultant. -Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to Client inquiries.

What You Bring

-At least two years of undergraduate schooling (such as Diploma of Technology in the Architectural and Building Technology program at BCIT, or Bachelors of Engineering program) and 1 to 3 years' experience -Responsible self-starter with problem solving and reasoning skills. -Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and procedure manuals, and to respond to questions from architects, engineers, and clients
