Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager (Transmission & Distribution)

Description

• Actively manage subcontractors and resources remote from the core project team
• governance decisions of projects by providing evaluations of progress, performance, risk, contingency, and continuing relevance.
• Advise the client on procurement strategies and review tender documentation.
• Manage multi-disciplinary teams including commercial, programme controls, engineering, and others
• Support the successful delivery of Project Management commissions.
• Attend project meetings, taking responsibility for minuting and leading discussions towards resolutions.
• Accountable for the production and maintenance of project documentation, including timelines, resource allocation, project execution strategies and reports.

• Support the project sponsor in preparing and maintaining definitions of the project requirements.
• Ensure compliance with the Construction Design Management Regulations Act of 2015.
• Assist in the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary Transmission, Distribution and Power Systems projects.
• Establish, and implement where necessary, protocols to change the scope of projects and update configuration documents as required.

• Accountable for delivery of projects in a safe & environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality.
• Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.
• Support business development opportunities with existing and new clients
• Develop strong relationships with clients and members of the cross-functional team
• Provide support to SPM on contract management services on NEC4 contracts, administering through a contract management system.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years’ project management experience
• Infrastructure and project management experience, delivering projects
• Experience of NEC suite of contracts, particularly the Professional Services Contract (PSC) and Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC)
• Understanding of the UK Transmission and Distribution System along with associated plan and equipment.
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of technical aspects related to electricity transmission and distribution, including infrastructure development and operational requirements.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to effectively communicate and engage with various stakeholders, including internal teams, contractors, and the public, to ensure project alignment and address concerns.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Experience of working as part of integrated, multi-organisation, collaborative teams
• Strong history in both contract (NEC3 and 4) and project management.
• Financial Acumen: Skills in budget management and financial oversight to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Experience of working on projects in Substations, Over Head Lines, and Cables 33kV – 400kV with DNO or TO.
• Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and solve complex problems that may arise during project execution.
• Strategic Thinking: Understanding of the broader strategic goals of National Grid and how individual projects contribute to these objectives
• Highly motivated and with excellent industry network
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Experience of working within a client organisation, either directly or through a co-location/secondment arrangement.
• Relationship building skills –ability to build strong relationships with clients, teams, and stakeholders as well as an ability to build and maintain networks of business contacts.
• A project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM
• A relevant degree such as in engineering, environmental science, construction, or relevant subject
• Leadership and Team Development: Capability to lead project teams, fostering a collaborative environment and supporting team members' professional growth.
• A member of a related professional body, preferably chartered
• Good understanding of CDM regulations.
• Experience of working with NGET business processes, supplier requirements, national development process 500.
• Project Management Proficiency: Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies, including planning, scheduling, communication, teamwork, resource management, and risk management.
