  • Responsible for having a thorough knowledge of all union agreements that pertain to unionized staff under their charge, to the extent necessary to resolve grievances and maintain labor harmony.
  • Perform random audits on materials, equipment, inventoried spare parts, etc. at the direction of the General Maintenance Supervisor
  • Under the supervision of the General Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing direct supervision of Newark Liberty International Airport’s Landscaping Section, which is comprised of IUOE employees.
  • Plan, initiate, and direct the instruction of assigned personnel in work methods and techniques, safe work practices, and use of materials and equipment.
  • Maintain FAR Part 139 Airport Certification related to aeronautical landscaping and ensure safety conditions for landside areas.
  • Instructing assigned personnel in work methods and techniques, safe work practices, and proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Coordinating work with other craft groups and planning future work.
  • Make supervisor inspections of facility conditions and equipment
  • The selected candidate will also participate in the airport’s snow removal plan, produce and update the yearly facility snow removal procedure manual, and maintain the daily snow operator call-in equalization list.
  • Support and update unit’s roster or routines as approved by the Unit Chief.
  • Identify necessary corrective actions for work, recommend improved maintenance routines, and ensure effective use of staff, materials, and equipment.
  • Creating daily schedules of work and monitoring successful completion of work.

  • Knowledge of PC programs and applications, including Maximo, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the Bid Document process in regards to requirements contracts. As a contract administrator, must understand the provisions of the purchase document, have the ability to communicate contract obligations to all parties involved, and maintain control over the contract performance. Shall act as liaison with/or oversee the performance of service vendors
  • Thorough knowledge of the Audit Process thus assuring facility compliance with established audit policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise work of subordinates and train new employees
  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Airport Security Program and ability to enforce security standards.
  • Ability to read, review and work from contract drawings (blueprints) and contract specifications and make comments/recommendations regarding maintenance aspects of proposed new construction or alterations. Keep precise records of the unit’s contracts.
  • Ability to supervise and work flexible hours for airport emergencies including but not limited to snow emergencies.
  • Ability to coordinate work with other craft groups and to organize several jobs simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with various levels of Port Authority staff and Federal Agencies, as well as external contractors, tenants, and customers
  • Knowledge of Port Authority Code of Ethics as they relate to PA staff, Contractors, and Contract Staff.
  • Knowledge of the facility’s snow removal plan.
  • Strong knowledge of airport terminal, landside, and aeronautical operations.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required .
  • Experience in scheduling maintenance work activities and monitoring and preparing inventory of materials.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
