The Hardware Lab Engineer will join the Lab team, reporting to the Lab Manager, to develop setups, rework electronic and mechanical assemblies, perform board assembly, and maintain the laboratory supporting fire detection systems. The role collaborates closely with a multi‑disciplined engineering group that includes electronics, mechanical, PCB layout, firmware, and manufacturing engineers to deliver new and improved customer solutions.
The role carries information‑security responsibilities such as adhering to Johnson Controls policies, product security standards, and licensing agreements; avoiding illegal software use; protecting copyrighted material; implementing physical and technical safeguards; and promptly reporting any security incidents or vulnerabilities.
Daily responsibilities include supporting hardware, mechanical, firmware, and QA teams, working independently to complete assigned tasks correctly the first time. The engineer must have extensive hands‑on experience with soldering and de‑soldering stations, be proficient in soldering all types of SMT components, and understand basic lab equipment operation as well as inventory management and setup preparation.
A thorough knowledge of lab management and ISO audit processes is required, along with experience using oscilloscope, digital multimeter, signal generators, and industry‑standard soldering stations. The candidate should be skilled in preparing test jigs and setups, possess basic mechanical assembly knowledge, and maintain 5S practices, equipment calibration reports, and ISO‑compliant documentation.
Desired qualifications include a Diploma or ITI in a technical discipline, 5–10 years of laboratory experience, and familiarity with EMC equipment and thermal chambers. Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently or within a team and meet assigned timelines.
