Description

The Controller will manage all finance, accounting, and payroll functions for the golf course and serve as the finance lead for the construction project. Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller is responsible for financial reporting across a multi‑entity structure, providing analysis, interpreting results, and recommending improvements to financial performance for both internal executives and external stakeholders.

In addition, the role ensures compliance with legal and fiscal obligations, maintains company policies, oversees payroll, workers’ compensation, and safety programs, and collaborates with external accountants on tax returns. The Controller also supports executive team goals through regular meetings and professional interaction with staff, executives, and community members.

• Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements, forecasts, and variance analysis for Golf Operations, F&B, and the Villas Construction project.
• Manage accounts payable/receivable and intercompany reconciliations to ensure accurate cost allocation across entities.
• Lead construction job‑costing for the villas development, tracking budget versus actuals and managing contractor draws and lien waivers.
• Prepare and maintain the annual operating budget.
• Oversee payroll processing, workers’ compensation, and safety‑related programs with light HR administrative duties.
• Control and forecast cash flow for daily operations and capital‑intensive construction phases.
• Administer and update company policies as required.
• Plan and direct monthly meetings with executive team members.
• Enforce legal and fiscal obligations in compliance with government agencies and professional standards.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and required filings.
• Manage workers compensation and commercial insurance policies.
• Manage safety‑related programs and personnel policies.
• Coordinate with external accountants on annual tax returns.

Requirements

• Interact courteously and professionally with staff, executives, and community members.
• Minimum of 5 years progressive accounting experience in a similar role.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance preferred; CPA designation or equivalent required.
• Experience and knowledge of the construction field.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain superior standards daily and resolve problems with sound judgment.
• Thorough knowledge of accounting, operations, purchasing, inventory, budgeting, and GAAP.
• Ability to stay technically competent in accounting, tax matters, and industry innovations.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate to foster teamwork.
• Proven team leader with high energy and motivation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and QuickBooks Online.
• Familiarity with computer‑based accounting systems; point‑of‑sale system experience a plus.
• Legally eligible to work in California, USA.
