Within a business unit, the Operations Manager – Hauling is responsible for managing collections activities for commercial, industrial and residential customers, as well as container delivery and pickup in a geographically dispersed area. The role leads a team of Operations Supervisors, Dispatchers, Operations Clerks, Drivers and Helpers who handle the route system for commercial, roll‑off and residential customers. The manager works with the General Manager and other unit managers to execute a local market strategy aligned with the Area’s overall strategic operating and marketing plans, driving functional excellence and budget achievement.
The manager oversees staff hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and resolves safety issues and claims. They implement plans that complement the business unit’s strategic and operating plan, champion tactical initiatives to maximize customer experience, growth and profitability, and ensure maximum productivity and route management for commercial, roll‑off and residential routes while managing labor hours and disposal expenses. They interact with customers and government entities to resolve service concerns and ensure regulatory compliance, and lead safety and accident‑prevention programs to maintain a safe, productive work environment. Additionally, they approve expenses, manage the operations budget, and develop a best‑in‑class team and workplace culture, fostering best‑practice sharing and strong community and government relations.
The ideal candidate demonstrates business acumen, strategic thinking, and the ability to execute formulated strategies and lead change initiatives. They are process‑ and results‑oriented, possess strong problem‑solving, analytical, and decision‑making skills, and can direct large staff while building collaborative teams. A high school diploma or GED and at least two years of supervisory or management experience (or participation in Republic Services’ management trainee program) are required. The pay range is $104,400 – $143,550, with a 20% annual incentive target and eligibility for a comprehensive benefits package.
