The Electrical Engineer II or III (High Voltage, Protection & Controls) contributes to design and delivery of protection, control, and communication systems for renewable energy and high‑voltage substation projects. Working under senior engineering guidance, the role performs detailed design, analysis, and modeling throughout the project lifecycle, from preliminary design to commissioning. Engineer II candidates apply established methods with supervision, while Engineer III candidates independently handle complex assignments, drive process improvements, and mentor junior staff.
Responsibilities include developing electrical engineering plans, preparing detailed design drawings, performing power system modeling and relay coordination studies, and creating protection and control documentation. The engineer also configures SCADA and communication interfaces, supports field and commissioning teams, and optimizes protection scheme templates for efficiency. Additional duties involve ensuring compliance with safety standards, participating in quality reviews, and coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Develop detailed electrical engineering plans and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects.
- Prepare and review design drawings, including single-line, three-line, panel elevations, schematics, cable schedules, and wiring diagrams.
- Conduct power system modeling and relay coordination studies using ASPEN or ETAP.
- Create protection and control design basis, perform relay setting calculations, and generate configuration files with tools such as SEL AcSELerator or GE EnerVista.
- Define SCADA system and communication interface settings for substation equipment.
- Provide engineering support to field and commissioning teams during construction and energization.
- Optimize protection scheme templates and tools for efficiency and standardization.
- Perform design tasks on small projects or portions of larger projects, applying standard techniques and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards and codes.
- Participate in quality reviews to verify adherence to Revamp standards and client requirements.
- Travel up to 10% to client sites, fabrication yards, or field locations for coordination and commissioning support.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and power systems engineers to deliver integrated designs.
- Receive supervision (Engineer II) or independent guidance on complex problems (Engineer III) and mentor less experienced team members.
