In this role you will read and interpret winding specification documents, locate coil number, quantity and revision, and record the coil number on the coil and labor paperwork. You will install and adjust devices on the winding machine to meet window sizing specifications, load strip, conductor and insulating paper onto dereeling mechanisms, measure materials, adjust the machine for proper alignment, and place and adjust the coil form as required. Additional tasks include applying pack‑out per specification, folding, insulating and tape‑welding pre‑cut leads, and operating a crimping tool to crimp wire to static shielding. You will also complete a two‑week welding and brazing training at WCTC.
The Coil Winder Machine Operator Apprentice is responsible for setting up and operating winding machines to produce coils of various sizes according to winding sheets, diagrams, and order pouches. Coil conductor configurations may include strip, round, or rectangular wire in multiple combinations. The apprenticeship program provides classroom technical training, welding and brazing instruction at WCTC, use of HoloLens VR smart glasses, and on‑the‑job experience.
Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the Waukesha, WI facility (Active‑Duty military are exempt), and no relocation assistance is offered. Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of manufacturing or military technical experience, and a minimum of six months of coil winding experience. Applicants must be able to interpret prints and quality specifications, work overtime when needed, and safely lift up to 50 lbs while performing essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
