The Funding & Strategic Research Engineer is a central figure in driving innovation through public funding and global research collaborations. Reporting to senior leadership, the role coordinates and executes multi‑year funded projects, aligning them with Baker Hughes’ innovation roadmap. The engineer also serves as a Service Product Manager, representing the company in high‑level institutional forums.
Key duties include leading the preparation and submission of competitive funding proposals, managing a portfolio of funded projects, and ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and internal policy requirements. The role oversees cost eligibility, audit documentation, KPI monitoring, and regular progress reporting while facilitating communication across research teams, business units, funding bodies, and academic partners. Strategic analysis of data supports decisions on research networks and joint technology development.
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field and bring 10‑15 years of energy‑sector experience, with at least eight years leading complex, multi‑stakeholder funded research programs. A proven track record of securing public funding such as Horizon Europe or US DOE, strong stakeholder‑engagement skills, and deep knowledge of funding regulations are essential. Desired attributes include a PhD, experience with government agencies, IPMA or equivalent project‑management certification, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
