  • Provide technical advice to the Director, Systems Engineering, on all technical matters and management issues related to the Data Communication Systems design department.
  • Represent Hitachi Rail at technical committees, as required.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to the DCS Design Specialists regarding their responsibilities and design decisions.
  • Responsible for preparing resource plans and the budget for the DCS Design Group, ensuring that company objectives are met within budget.
  • Manage the hiring, promotion, compensation, and performance of DCS design staff within the approved budget.
  • Support the development of a robust, reliable, and secure Data Communication Systems product.
  • Develop and train resources to ensure adequate and qualified staff are available to perform and lead the design/requirements development for projects/products, including acceptance requirements.
  • Manage frequent, unexpected technical problems promptly.
  • Ensure effective test requirements are developed.
  • Set systems design direction for DCS projects and products.
  • Participate in the decision-making process, formulating strategy for technical issues as related to the Systems Engineering Department.
  • Prepare estimates for development efforts, technical designs, and schedules related to Systems Department tasks and proposals.
  • Ensure design activities follow the established structured Systems Design process.
  • Manage project-related technical issues to ensure specification compliance.
  • Provide technical marketing support and review of technical specifications. Assist marketing in the preparation of technical proposals and budgets related to marketing proposals.
  • Ensure that processes for Systems Design and Requirement Management are followed.
  • Approve technical designs, including hardware and software configurations, to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications/requirements in all technical designs, and minimize risks while maximizing benefits for product development.
  • Approve estimates for project activities and manage the DCS Design Group to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.
  • Keep current with technical developments in the Data Communication Systems and railway signaling field, both within and outside of the company.
  • Represent the department on the Change Control Committee, reviewing change proposals and approving ECNs on behalf of the department.

  • 10+ years of technical/project experience in critical control systems and data communication systems.
  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge of Railway Operating Rules and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good technical writing skills.
