The role of Principal Civil (Aviation) Engineer involves leading and delivering a wide range of airside design projects across airports throughout Aotearoa. Reporting within the national aviation team, the engineer will work in a collaborative setting that emphasizes technical excellence and innovation while managing complex projects from concept through construction.
- Lead design of airfield infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, aprons, pavements, and grading.
- Perform and review airside geometric design and stand planning tasks.
- Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and bid documents in accordance with local standards.
- Provide construction‑phase support such as site visits, submittal reviews, and RFI responses.
- Interface with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget tracking; lead design management activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their technical and professional development.

- 5+ years experience in the civil aviation sector delivering complex projects; design and project management experience preferred.
- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or related field; postgraduate qualifications desirable.
- Strong technical skills in 3D geometric design, airside planning, aircraft tracking (AviPlan), and creation of design drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Knowledge of ICAO Annex 14, NZ CAA Advisory Circular Part 139, and relevant US FAA Advisory Circulars.
- Proficiency with design software such as OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Infraworks, and ProjectWise; MX/Inroads experience a plus.
- Excellent communication and client‑focused skills with ability to build trusted relationships at all levels.
- Demonstrated experience in site‑based construction monitoring.
- Surveying and GIS experience advantageous.
