Archaeology Field Technician (on-call)

Description

• Conduct archaeological field work including surveys, testing, monitoring, and data recovery excavations under supervisor direction.
• Record artifacts and features using Trimble GIS, map sites, draw scaled profiles and plans, and maintain field documentation.
• Process and catalog artifacts and materials under lab supervision.
• Perform preliminary lab analysis and tasks under supervision.
• File, scan records, and complete record searches and report tables as directed.

Requirements

Candidates must hold an Associate’s degree (or higher) in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline, though relevant experience can substitute for education. The role demands physical stamina for desert fieldwork, the ability to transport heavy equipment, and flexibility to travel on short notice.

• Hold an Associate’s degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field (experience may substitute).
• Prior archaeology experience preferred.
• Ability to work long hours in desert conditions with extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and high altitudes.
• Capable of carrying up to 60 lb of equipment and supplies, bending and kneeling for extended periods.
• Willingness to travel out of town across the Southwest on short notice, with per diem and lodging provided.
• Strong teamwork and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, creative environment.
