Environmental Engineer IV responsible for supporting large-scale mining environmental remediation and construction projects in the western US, manage personnel, resources, and project schedules, supervise and participate in field activities, and ensure accurate data collection.
Conduct daily site safety briefings or “tailgates” as required.
Work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth technical knowledge of organizational or industry information.
Manage project-specific expenditures and ensure purchases provide good value for money.
Drafting project submittals.
Order and maintain an inventory of necessary supplies and equipment.
Review of specifications, drawings, work plans, and ongoing construction activities to assure compliance.
Serve as discipline expert on team and may act as formal or informal team lead.
Work independently but may also lead team projects/assignments.
Interfacing with program and project managers, senior technical staff, the government customer, and RA Contractors.
Ensure accurate data collection and maintenance of detailed records, including daily activity reports (DARs) and waste manifests.
Communicate project progress, potential issues, and completion status to project managers and senior management.
Developing engineering studies, plans, designs, and specifications for the remediation of environmental contamination.
Ensure strict adherence to all health and safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Reporting of observations and compliance with contract documents.
Manage personnel, resources, and project schedules to ensure timely and efficient operations.
Supervise and participate in field activities such as sample collection, environmental assessments, and site surveys.
Submit all required project documents, receipts, and forms on a weekly or project-completion basis.
Preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, FSPs, RI/FS Reports, SSHP/HASPs, technical memoranda).
Lead and mentor field staff, foster a collaborative work environment.
Oversee the execution of field work according to project plans and company standards

Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.

Strong technical writing and documentation experience with prior experience contributing to the preparation of remedial design documents that are technically sound and accurately reflect the project approach and requirements.
Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience in environmental industry.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
OSHA 40-hr. and 8-hr. HAZWOPER Training.
Understanding of remediation and construction site health & safety (H&S) hazards.
Ability to prepare daily reports documenting activities and findings.
Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically in Excel and Word.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) including the ability to comfortably engage with varying levels of leadership, RA Contractors, subcontractors, internal and external stakeholders, etc.
Ability to lift 30 pounds.
Knowledge of environmental regulations, sampling techniques, and field safety procedures
Knowledge and experience of CERCLA, MDEQ, EPA, and/or mining and smelting projects.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Physical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and perform tasks such as hiking with tools and performing heavy lifting.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
Working knowledge of Federal and state occupational regulations.
Mastered almost all technical concepts and procedures for mining related environmental cleanup projects and require minimal instruction even on unique and challenging assignments.
Comfort and adaptability in rugged terrain and remote locations.
Potential 20% travel within the U.S. as needed to support projects.
Experience with community outreach.
Experience working with EPA on mining/smelting related projects and/or Montana Department of Environmental Quality.
Ability to exercise independent decision making in day-to-day operations as well as long-term decision making to address major issues.
Ability to work in a team environment with corporate, project, and technical management staff.
Experience at a federal government remediation or construction sites.
M.S. degree in engineering field related to Civil / Mining Engineering or Environmental Studies.
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field such as: Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
EIT Certification or Registered PE, depending on experience.
Ability to conduct completion inspections, document project status and maintain records.
