  • Establish positive relationships with union representatives and take a leadership role in union-management meetings
  • Maintain best practice and knowledge of setting precedent on issues which put the company at risk
  • Oversee and be responsible for the research, administration and distribution of labour relations documents such as collective agreements, letters of understanding, specific project labour agreements, wage schedules, etc
  • Develop and deliver labour relations training content
  • Act as a point of contact for external and internal Industrial Relations and unionized Human Rights related inquiries
  • Negotiate, create and implement various letters of understanding in partnership with union, HR and business representatives
  • Contribute to full-cycle collective bargaining preparation, research and costing , table negotiations and implementation
  • Grievance management including investigating and responding to union grievances at all levels of the process, including arbitration
  • Provide advice, guidance and solutions to business leaders and HR representatives regarding the interpretation, compliance, administration and implementation of Collective Agreements across multiple Provinces and collective agreements.
  • Work with internal and external legal counsel on complex labour relations matters
  • Work closely with HR representatives to resolve employee and labour relations issues in a timely manner

  • HR designation (CPHR) or significant progress towards completion considered an asset
  • Ability to work autonomously, while remaining aligned with HR strategies.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years progressive experience in human resources, coupled with a minimum of 3 years working in an unionized environment including but not limited to: full-cycle collective bargaining, grievance resolution, arbitration proceedings, human rights matters
  • Strong partnering, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Knows how to apply the collective agreement
  • Knowledge of HR Programs, Policies & Procedures coupled with business acumen
  • Post-secondary education in human resources management, labour relations management or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skill and an ability to identify trends and patterns of behavior.
  • Proactive, flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment, which demands a high level of energy and commitment.
  • Understands the requirements to work in a unionized environment
  • Collaborative, responsive and service-oriented approach and proven ability to immediately establish credibility and able to influence change. Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency.
  • Excellent analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving skills which include quickly identifying core issues and making effective decisions.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint) and comfortable navigating in HRIS. Experience with Workday is an asset.
  • Strong focus on continuous improvement ideas and initiatives to drive positive change.
  • Strong alternative dispute and conflict resolution skills to encourage resolution at the lowest level.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of pertinent legislation and case law
