The Global Design Leader (GDL) – Plant Controls is responsible for leading extended‑scope controls engineering projects from kickoff, through hardware design, software development, commissioning, and commercial plant operation. This role supports the requisition, design, validation, and commissioning of control systems for gas turbines, bottoming cycles (HRSG & steam turbine) and balance‑of‑plant (BOP). By collaborating closely with internal and external customers, the GDL drives technical depth, contemporary leadership, on‑time quality execution, and a customer‑focused mindset.
The GDL compiles project‑level controls strategies, documents requirements, and leads design and implementation across GT, HRSG, ST, and BOP. As an empowered decision‑maker, the GDL owns high‑risk projects from ITO to COD, supports proposal efforts, and applies Agile software methodology to define product requirements, architecture, verification, validation and commissioning. The role ensures system performance, reliability, maintainability and safety, and oversees comprehensive test plans, software acceptance tests, and site pre‑operation activities.
The GDL coordinates the flow‑down of internal and external customer requirements, partners with project managers to establish baseline schedules and cost roll‑ups, and leads customer discussions to improve controls solutions and expectations. Consistent solutions are driven across all plant systems, and the GDL demonstrates system‑level thinking while leading fulfillment teams with an inclusive, adaptable style.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline and at least ten years of experience in the combined‑cycle power‑plant industry with a focus on controls. Desired characteristics encompass experience with GE power‑generation controls design, system integration, strong oral and written communication, technical writing expertise, and proven ability to independently drive projects to completion while leading diverse technical teams.
