  • Support scenario development for future energy system configurations, including electrification of heat, transport and strategic large demands.
  • Lead the development of electrical models to support strategic mid/long-term network planning and operational decision-making.
  • Translate technical modelling insights into clear recommendations for senior decision-makers and partners.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to capability development within the team.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure modelling outputs align with policy, regulatory frame works and are end-user friendly.
  • Analyse the impact of emerging technologies (e.g. HVDC, energy storage, hydrogen) on grid performance and stability.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Electrical Modelling Engineer to join our Net Zero Engineering Team. This role is central to supporting the UK’s energy transition by developing and applying advanced modelling techniques to assess future electricity network needs, inform strategic investment decisions, and enable the integration of low-carbon technologies.

  • Strong experience in power system modelling using tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD.
  • Solid understanding of transmission and distribution networks including fault analysis, load flow, and stability studies.
  • Ability to assess and model the impact of hydrogen, carbon capture, and flexibility solutions on future grid infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of UK energy policy, net zero targets, and regulatory frameworks (e.g. Ofgem, DESNZ).
  • Experience developing complex system models for power systems, grid integration, and energy storage.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related STEM discipline, (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven ability to manage complex technical projects and communicate findings effectively to non-technical audiences.
  • Good understanding of HVDC, UHVDC, and power electronics systems.
  • Proficiency in modelling and simulation tools such as Python-based frameworks, MATLAB/Simulink, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, or EnergyPLAN.
