Safety Manager

Description

The Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of a comprehensive safety program for Zephyr Rail’s rail and transportation projects, overseeing on‑site safety protocols, inspections, and ensuring compliance with FRA, OSHA, and other regulations to protect personnel and assets. This role is crucial for fostering a proactive safety culture and mitigating risk across all project phases.

• Develop, implement, and maintain corporate safety program, site‑specific safety plans, and job hazard analyses compliant with FRA, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA.
• Conduct regular field safety inspections and audits, documenting regulatory and contract compliance.
• Oversee rail worker safety certification, employee training, and orientation for staff and subcontractors.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and track corrective actions.
• Prepare and maintain safety records, reports, and metrics for submission to the Resident Engineer and leadership.
• Collaborate with contractors, field inspectors, and client safety representatives to ensure consistent safety standards.
• Mentor employees and partners through toolbox talks and on‑site coaching to promote a “Safety First” culture.

Requirements

• Possess 10+ years of experience in safety management, construction engineering, or rail safety, with a CHST certification.
• Hold OSHA 30‑hour training, First Aid/CPR/BBP, and AED certifications, and demonstrate strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA and FRA requirements.
• Experience preparing and auditing SSSPs, JHAs, and incident reports for public transportation or infrastructure projects.
• Ability to influence and lead safety culture across multidisciplinary CM/PM teams.
• Hold a valid California Class C driver’s license and be able to travel to Southern California project sites.
• Preferred experience with public‑agency projects such as LA Metro, Caltrain, LOSSAN, SANDAG, or Metrolink.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
