Interns will engage with site personnel to identify skill‑set requirements and explore existing mine‑design software such as Deswik, RPM, ArcGIS, Google Earth and Trimble. Based on this research they will design, prototype, and test a low‑cost field‑surveying technique that achieves 1‑3 ft staking accuracy without Trimble GPS. The resulting workflow will be documented in a Standard Operating Procedure that can be applied at one or several sites to address the shortage of survey support.

The Mining Engineer Internship is a full‑time, paid summer position (12‑16 weeks) located in Sandersville, GA, scheduled for summer 2026. Interns will develop a method and SOP for using simple software or geo‑referenced PDF maps to stake designs in the field with 1‑3 ft accuracy without Trimble GPS, enabling contractors at sites like Kings Mountain to perform control‑line work.
