Water Treatment Technical Leader

Description

The Water Technical Leader will oversee pilot studies, condition assessments, and process‑technology evaluations to meet drinking‑water regulations, and will lead concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for treatment plant upgrades and distribution systems. The position also coordinates multidisciplinary teams, mentors junior staff, and engages with clients and professional organizations.

• Lead and coordinate pilot studies and condition assessments of water infrastructure.
• Evaluate and select process technologies to meet safe drinking‑water regulations.
• Develop concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for treatment plant upgrades and distribution projects, including pumping stations, storage tanks, and transmission mains.
• Integrate civil, hydraulic, mechanical, architectural, structural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and I&C disciplines in project designs.
• Support business development by analyzing market trends and contributing to strategy, approach, and fee proposals for water projects.
• Mentor and develop junior water process and design staff.
• Represent AECOM at professional organizations, conferences, and presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering with ≥8 years of relevant experience; Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Preferred: Master’s degree and 10+ years of municipal water planning and design experience.
• Strong knowledge of water design codes, standards, and regulations; excellent client‑facing communication skills.
• Proven ability to make independent engineering decisions, organize teams, and produce technical documentation.
• Self‑starter with initiative, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safe project execution.

Compensation ranges from $130,000 to $170,000 annually, based on location and qualifications, for a hybrid position based in Chelmsford, MA. The role does not include relocation assistance or sponsorship for employment authorization.
