In this role, you will lead investigation and remediation projects, co-lead overall technical operations for AEI’s eastern region, and mentor technical staff. Responsibilities will also include developing project scope, schedule and budgets for various projects, including field work and travel, as needed.
- Prepares investigation and remediation proposals including project budgets Project management of complex regulatory investigation and remediation projects including vapor intrusion mitigation, petroleum, solvents, metals, pesticides, etc.
- Performs and manages environmental site investigations, mitigation and remediation design and implementation
- Lead high-quality technical report writing and review, including interpretation of data and applicable regulatory criteria, and strategic understanding of required next steps
- Maintains or exceeds applicable utilization goals
- Provides mentorship and technical leadership within regional and national teams
- Leads projects and serves in a mid-to-senior technical role on moderate to complex and mid to high budget projects
- Responsible for coordination of field activities
- Maintains relationships with regulatory agencies and ability to perform as a strong client advocate
- Obtains and adheres to the Company required Health and Safety Training Program and Practices
- Soil, groundwater, and soil vapor investigations, including well installation, logging and sampling techniques
- Develops and maintains subcontractor relationships

AEI Consultants is currently seeking a Professional Engineer to join our expanding Site Mitigation division. We are seeking a seasoned professional to provide project management oversight and leadership on environmental projects, design and implement subsurface investigation activities, mentor junior staff, prepare investigation reports, advocate for our clients with regulatory agencies, and support AEI’s growth in the region.
The work environment may be both indoors and outdoors. Indoor work takes place in a typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Outdoor work requires the ability to effectively perform work in all types of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, type, handle office and/or field equipment, speak and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, balance, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.
- Practical experience or relevant knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in the northeast states (NY/NJ/CT/PA/MD) and Federal
- A self-starter, resourceful, with attention to detail and the ability to work productively and independently on multiple projects under strict deadlines
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in civil or environmental engineering, or similar field required
- Flexibility to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor and project manager; willingness and ability to perform a wide range of project tasks, as necessary (i.e., client management, cost estimating, business development support, field work, report writing and review, etc.); and ability to think critically through a project from conception to completion
- Experience (approximately 7+ years) in complex contaminated site investigation and remediation project execution
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of New York required; licenses in additional states a plus
- Working experience with NJDEP Site Remediation Program (SRP) and proficiency preparing related deliverables (PA/SI, RI, RAWP, RAR, RA Permits)
- Experience as a project manager on remediation projects and/or managing a team of technical staff
- Requires minimal oversight and supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong business acumen
- NJDEP UST Closure/Subsurface Evaluator a plus
- Experience with civil/environmental design, including remediation of soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion/radon mitigation. Brownfields redevelopment experience a plus
