The Associate Director role in the Transmission & Distribution team, based in Manchester, UK, leads the strategic growth and technical delivery of high‑voltage (HV/EHV) cable system capabilities across UK and international energy markets.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex cable projects, engage with transmission system operators, distribution network operators, private developers, and other global energy clients, and shape the future grid through engineering innovation.

Lead delivery of cable system design and consultancy from feasibility to commissioning.
Act as technical lead and primary client interface for major cable packages, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
Develop and review HV cable designs, including routing, thermal, electromagnetic, and burial risk assessments.
Plan complex installations, covering cable pulling, jointing, short‑circuit, and cleating calculations in subsea, tunnel, and urban settings.
Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs (civil, structural, substation, marine, OHL) for integrated solutions.
Provide technical governance aligned with IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid Transmission Procedures.
Oversee FAT/SAT, cable manufacturing inspections, and installation verification activities.
Mentor and manage a team of engineers, fostering technical growth and performance management.
Contribute to business development through proposal writing, client presentations, and strategic partnership building.
Drive innovation, digital delivery, and best practices across the cables discipline.

Extensive experience delivering HV/EHV cable projects in on‑shore, regulated utility or energy transition environments.
Strong knowledge of IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid standards, with proficiency in ampacity, short‑circuit, electromagnetic, and thermal analysis.
Proven leadership managing technical teams and multidisciplinary coordination.
Experience engaging with major UK and international clients such as National Grid, SSE, EirGrid, EDF, or renewable developers.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progress toward chartership, and optionally National Grid CDAE certification.
Familiarity with cable system software tools like CYMCAP, WinCable, ElectraMagnetics Studio, or PLAXIS.
Strong project management and commercial awareness.
