The role demands both field work and home‑office tasks, with the ability to review designs with customers and attend project meetings on their behalf.
The OSP Engineer is responsible for designing, documenting and pricing both copper and fiber outside‑plant facilities. Prior experience with Brightspeed (formerly CenturyLink/Lumen) is preferred, and extensive computer knowledge is required.
Qualifications include advanced knowledge of OSP design for business‑as‑usual operations, experience with copper and fiber‑optic cable, and familiarity with Rural Utility Standards (RUS) coding. Candidates must have at least two years of OSP design experience across aerial, buried and underground telecom infrastructure, as well as civil‑design expertise for utility relocation and permit coordination with local municipalities, counties, states and railroads.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program and a minimum of two years relevant experience are required. Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD or Revit, strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills, and effective communication and technical writing abilities are essential. Attention to detail, organization, and teamwork are also expected.
A valid driver’s license is mandatory; Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification is preferred. Pre‑employment drug screening, background and motor‑vehicle checks may be required.
