The role involves delivering comprehensive care and support, covering personal hygiene, social engagement, nutrition, medication assistance, mobility aid, and coordination of appointments and visitors. You will develop, review and maintain resident care plans, ensure compliance with regulatory bodies such as GDPR, CQC, HSE and local authority standards, and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Housekeeping and laundry duties for residents are also part of the responsibilities.
Effective communication is essential; you must write clear notes, interact with individuals with diverse communication needs, and provide strong customer service. Analytical thinking, task structuring, issue‑pre‑empting and problem‑solving are required, as is the ability to refer decisions to line managers and suggest improvements. Values such as reliability, empathy, cultural awareness and a commitment to the well‑being of older people, including those with dementia, are fundamental, as is the ability to work collaboratively within a team and handle challenging situations.
Essential qualifications include a solid understanding of older people's needs, the ability to provide personal care (feeding, bathing, toileting), good IT skills with Microsoft packages, and either a Care Certificate or willingness to work towards it. Desirable additional certifications are First Aid, food hygiene and manual handling. A proactive attitude towards learning and development is expected.
St Monica Trust is dedicated to creating communities where older people flourish, offering residents the chance to enjoy valued relationships, exercise choice, and feel respected. As a registered charity and not‑for‑profit, we operate retirement villages, specialist care homes, and support services across the region, providing a wide range of career opportunities from care and nursing to administration and IT. Our comprehensive benefits package includes a generous pension scheme, life assurance, at least 23 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, retail discounts, subsidised gym and restaurant facilities, free parking and, in some villages, affordable on‑site accommodation.
The St Monica Trust provides accommodation, care and support for older people in and around Bristol. The Trust supports a wide variety of people with different needs through our innovative retirement villages and care homes. In addition, our charitable foundation supports older people in the wider region through grants to individuals and partner organisations. We’re committed to communities where older people flourish and for us this means providing opportunities for our residents to enjoy treasured relationships, exercise choice and feel valued. We call these our three C’s – Connection, Contribution, and Choice.
