Senior Database Administrator (SQL & NoSQL - MongoDB + AWS DR Expertise)

Description

• Architect, implement, and maintain relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Optimize read‑heavy workloads in MongoDB by designing compound/multikey indexes, implementing sharding for horizontal scaling, and applying partitioning logic.
• Design and execute AWS disaster‑recovery solutions, configuring Multi‑AZ deployments and building Multi‑Region failover with Aurora Global Database, AWS DMS, and Route 53.
• Define RPO/RTO objectives and automate disaster‑recovery testing procedures.
• Monitor and tune database performance across platforms and develop robust backup, recovery, and failover procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to create efficient data models and queries.
• Automate administrative tasks using Python, Bash, or Shell scripts.
• Mentor developers and contribute to database architecture decisions.

Requirements

The role is for a senior Database Administrator (DBA) who brings extensive experience in both SQL and NoSQL environments. The ideal candidate is an expert in MongoDB read‑optimization techniques and possesses deep knowledge of disaster‑recovery strategies on AWS, including Multi‑AZ and Multi‑Region deployments. This position will lead database architecture, performance tuning, and DR automation while mentoring team members.

• Expert‑level MongoDB proficiency: indexing strategies, sharding configuration, aggregation framework, and query profiling.
• Advanced experience with SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server.
• Strong understanding of AWS DR: Multi‑AZ replication, Multi‑Region architecture, Aurora Global DB, AWS DMS, and backup solutions using AWS Backup, S3, and EBS snapshots.
• Knowledge of NoSQL concepts and document‑based data modeling.
• Experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
• Scripting expertise for automation (Python, Bash).
• Familiarity with cloud database deployments on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
• 10–12 years of DBA or comparable experience.
• Preferred certifications in MongoDB, AWS, or SQL databases.
• Experience with MongoDB replica sets and failover mechanisms.
• Knowledge of Ops Manager, Cloud Manager, or similar tools.
• Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform or Ansible for DB provisioning.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS CloudFormation for DR automation.
