  • Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.
  • Authorize Lockout/Tagout requests and ensure Lockout/Tagout equipment is adequate to protect all personnel, vessels, modules, facilities and equipment.
  • Perform prolonged standing.
  • Maintain current knowledge of OSHA Lockout /Tagout requirements and US Navy Work Authorization Form (WAF) procedures.
  • Train all personnel participating in the Austal Lockout / Tagout Program in their respective facility or vessel in Lockout/Tagout procedures and equipment use.

  • Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.
  • Must obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance.
  • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
  • Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down.
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.
  • Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.
  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • Ability to read and interpret ship construction drawings, electrical and piping system diagrams, schematics and drawings and knowledge of shipboard engineering plant operations and terminology required
  • 18 years of age or older at time of application
  • Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts.
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).
  • Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
  • Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Lockout /Tagout requirements and US Navy Work Authorization Form (WAF) procedures required.
  • Experience in ensuring equipment readiness for installation or operation of industrial or marine equipment required.
  • Willing to submit to a background check
  • Experience as a Lockout /Tagout Authorizing Officer in an industrial or marine environment preferred.
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
  • Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
  • Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead).
  • Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV) and/or Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Hull Mechanical & Electrical Systems (HM&E) installations preferred.
  • Prior Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Mariner experience beneficial.
  • Knowledge of industrial or marine ancillary machinery systems installation and operation and knowledge of diesel engines and gas turbines preferred.
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status
  • Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical propulsion and electrical power generating equipment required.
  • Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
