The Plant Manager is responsible for overall manufacturing operations and facility management, overseeing product quality, safety performance, personnel, budgeting, shipping, and receiving. This role ensures cost control, reduction, and effective communication across teams. Hours are 7 am to 5 pm Monday‑Friday with 24‑hour on‑call availability and occasional weekend work.
Key duties include building a high‑performing manufacturing team, championing lean manufacturing and the Carlisle Operating System, and maintaining strict inventory control. The manager fosters a positive, respectful workplace and collaborates with purchasing, engineering, health & safety, HR, and other corporate functions. Additional responsibilities may involve direct interaction with customers, vendors, and external agencies.
The Plant Manager is expected to actively support Carlisle Operating System (COS) initiatives and develop a lean mindset throughout the facility. Continuous improvement is a core expectation of the position.
- Develop a manufacturing team to deliver required product quantities at lowest cost and highest quality while maintaining a safe work environment, including employee training, scheduling, hiring/firing, customer contact, root cause analysis, financial tracking, safety implementation, supplier evaluation, and process improvement.
- Champion Lean Manufacturing implementation, including 5S housekeeping, inventory turns, throughput reduction, and advanced techniques as part of the Carlisle Operating System.
- Control inventory by releasing raw materials, supplies, and finished goods and establishing an audit procedure to ensure accurate inventories.
- Create a positive, confident environment for supervisory and production staff, directing them to achieve top performance with respect and dignity.
- Collaborate with purchasing, environmental health & safety, engineering, human resources, and corporate staff, serving as the local expert on these topics.
- Interact with internal and external customers, vendors, and agencies as needed.
- Participate in and support Carlisle Operating System initiatives, fostering a lean mindset.

The ideal candidate possesses deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems (SPC, SOPs), and relevant regulations such as OSHA, FMLA, and EPA. Expertise in Lean, Six Sigma, financial budgeting, logistics, and ERP systems—preferably SAP—is required. Strong communication, organizational, delegation, and problem‑solving skills are essential for success in this role.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a business‑related field is required, along with at least ten years of experience in manufacturing or plant operations. This background ensures the ability to lead complex production environments.
The work environment combines office and manufacturing settings, with exposure to polyisocyanurate materials such as polyols, MDI, various facers, additives, plastics, and packaging. Safety protocols are in place to manage these exposures.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, products, and quality systems including SPC, SOPs, and process specifications.
- Understanding of government regulations affecting personnel and plant operations such as FMLA, OSHA, FLSA, ADA, Workers’ Comp, EPA, and unemployment.
- Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with financial and accounting functions, budgeting, cost control, financial data analysis, project justification, and ACE Process.
- Comprehensive grasp of logistics, covering raw material and finished goods shipping and customer service.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Effective organizational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to delegate responsibilities to subordinates and supporting roles.
- Superior problem‑solving abilities and capacity to make decisions under stress.
