Responsible for driving growth, profitability, and innovation across the business, aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. The Commercial Director will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for shaping the company’s competitive positioning in a rapidly evolving energy market. This role will lead multiple teams including trading, propositions, solar and industry schemes.
- Advise Committees, SLT and Board on market developments and the commercial implications of regulatory and policy change.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and business models in energy retail, digital, and distributed energy resources.
- Support on commercial metering contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives and operational capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with trading risk frameworks and internal governance.
- Directly lead commercial strategy across trading, propositions, solar, and industry schemes - ensuring sustainable revenue growth, profitability and efficient delivery.
- Provide oversight for operational contracts with commercial implications.
- Own pricing models and margin management across all customer segments.
- Lead the development of new customer propositions, tariffs, and services to drive differentiation and growth.
- Monitor wholesale energy markets to anticipate trends and identify opportunities, especially across the increasingly flexible electricity market with half hourly settlement as the new standard.
- Leading high-performing teams, and partnering with Operations, Finance, Technology and Regulatory functions, and can operate confidently at the Executive and Board level.
- Lead and develop a high-performing commercial team across multiple disciplines.
- Set the strategic direction for growth that will enable the Marketing Director to deliver aligned initiatives that drive customer acquisition, brand awareness and market share.
- Own the retail pricing framework across all tariffs and propositions, balancing competitiveness, risk appetite, and margin targets.
- Lead delivery government/industry schemes, ensuring compliance and cost efficiency, while at the same time looking to maximise the opportunities within these schemes to build on our existing products and propositions for our own customer benefit.
- Drive the growth of the company’s solar proposition, including residential, commercial, and community projects.
- Shape and oversee the company’s approach to future schemes (e.g., energy efficiency, decarbonisation initiatives).
- Oversee trading, forecasting and pricing teams and evolving strategy/operations to optimise hedging, risk management, forecasting and competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with marketing, customer, and operations teams to deliver compelling products aligned to customer needs.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
- Coach senior leaders to deliver results and build capability within their areas.
- Partner with operations, technical, and supply chain teams to ensure delivery at scale and high customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with the CFO and finance team to ensure financial performance is aligned with, and informs, commercial strategy and decision-making.
- Provide strategic input into company-wide planning and strategy, aligning commercial priorities with corporate objectives.

- Customer-centric growth mindset, with experience developing propositions, improving lifetime value, managing churn and profitability.
- Strong understanding of energy market dynamics and regulation, including tariff pricing, wholesale markets, and the commercial implications of policy and market change.
