The role provides strategic advice and counsel to senior executive leaders on both external and employee communications, shaping messaging that supports the Mid‑Atlantic South Marketing and Communications vision and enhances the reputation of BGE, Pepco, and DPL Maryland. It also involves building relationships with internal stakeholders, media, government officials, and public interest groups while serving as the primary spokesperson for the news media.
Key responsibilities include designing and executing internal and external communications strategies, managing the corporate brand and advertising programs, supervising the communications budget, and ensuring high‑quality messaging to external audiences such as customers, regulators, and elected officials. The incumbent will also oversee the creation, editing, and critique of communications materials and provide coaching and feedback to team members.
The position requires measuring the effectiveness of communication initiatives, delivering thought leadership, and working cross‑functionally with other Communications Directors and senior managers to guarantee program success. Oversight of a five‑person team—two managers and three specialists—is essential, with duties covering recruitment, talent development, performance management, and recognition.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (or possess 15‑20 years of equivalent experience), have at least 12 years of relevant experience in a fast‑paced technical organization, and have spent five years in a leadership role. The ideal applicant is an intuitive, strategic thinker with strong project‑management skills, the ability to synthesize complex issues, and exceptional written and interpersonal communication abilities.

An MBA is preferred. Compensation ranges from $160,800 to $221,100 annually, plus a $50,000 long‑term incentive and a 30% annual bonus opportunity.
