The Energy Marshal acts as a representative overseeing the Authorizing Energy Marshal (GC) and vendors, assuring the Energy Isolation Program meets Microsoft safety policies. They utilize the SPS‑101 Energy Isolation guide as the baseline and manage an assurance process to close gaps identified in audits.
Responsibilities include participating in High‑Risk Activity planning, establishing Energy Isolation Permit processes, reviewing statements of work, methods of procedure, and scripts, and determining LOTO requirements. The Marshal also verifies personnel qualifications, training, PPE, and delegates qualified alternates for multi‑shift operations.
The role requires liaison with Microsoft Operations to ensure isolation activities do not disrupt datacenter core operations and serves as a subject‑matter expert for incident investigations. It holds authority to stop unsafe work and provides guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
The Energy Isolation Program Plan involves communicating SPS‑101 documents, confirming authorizing and performing roles, and setting acceptance criteria for audits, inspections, and best‑practice reporting.
