Superintendent

Description

Gilbane is seeking a Superintendent to independently supervise an area of trade contractors with work valued up to $30M on a multi‑billion‑dollar casino project. The role is onsite daily and is a key position on the project team.

• Coordinate daily activities of trade partners and sub‑contractors to meet schedule and quality standards.
• Develop, document, and communicate field work plan changes.
• Participate in constructability reviews and assess change impacts.
• Verify that subcontractors obtain required construction permits.
• Serve as primary safety representative on the field.
• Maintain credibility with owners, contractors, unions, and partners by fostering a fair environment.
• Lead regular contractor meetings.
• Produce daily reports and documentation using software tools.
• Create, manage, and update the project schedule; implement contingency plans when needed.
• Communicate schedule status, updates, and changes to the project team and contractors.
• Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics.
• Oversee the project quality plan, conduct inspections, and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate material orders and crew scheduling with Site Services/Next 150.
• Coach and mentor less‑experienced Field Engineers on construction knowledge and business acumen.
• Assist in writing and evaluating scopes of work and participate in buyout activities.
• Support Time and Materials (T&M) tracking.
• Lead stretch/flex sessions, daily huddles, and pre‑task plan reviews.
• Promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
• Perform occasional tasks typically assigned to junior positions as needed.
• Maintain OSHA 30‑hour certification, STS‑C certification, and First Aid/CPR/AED/Stop‑the‑Bleed training.
• Enforce construction safety processes and cultivate a “safety first” culture.

Requirements

• Understand contract documents to anticipate and mitigate potential issues.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent experience).
• Possess 4–8 years of superintendent experience on $15‑$30M+ commercial/industrial projects.
• Demonstrate strong technical and communication skills.
• Exhibit excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and adaptability abilities.
• Work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction scheduling software.
• Be literate in construction documents and drawings across all project phases.
• Experience with multiple work divisions, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.
• Understand financial forecasting and general project requirements.

Compensation for Chicago ranges from $91,500 to $126,000 plus benefits, a retirement program, profit‑sharing, and competitive health and welfare plans. Candidates must pass a pre‑employment substance‑abuse test.
