What you would be doing

  • Install and assemble substation primary plant including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs, VTs, surge arresters, busbars, and earthing systems.
  • Assist with civil and mechanical works such as equipment plinths, foundations, and earthing grids.
  • Install and terminate HV/LV power cables, control and instrumentation wiring, and optical fibre systems.
  • Assemble and mount steel structures, gantries, and bus work with correct phase orientation and clearances.
  • Record test results accurately, complete redline mark-ups, and contribute to as-built documentation.
  • Support commissioning activities including pre-commissioning, testing, and energisation.
  • Support the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of HV substations and associated systems.
  • Install AC/DC auxiliary systems including distribution boards, battery banks, chargers, and UPS systems.
  • Conduct electrical testing (e.g. insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, loop tests) and assist with functional testing of protection, SCADA, and control systems.

  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (or equivalent)
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel and work on site as required (10/4?)
  • Previous experience in HV substation construction or maintenance (11kV-330kV)
  • Understanding of protection, control, and SCADA systems desirable
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Current Queensland electrical licence
  • Construction White Card
  • HV switching qualification or authorisation desirable
  • EWP, forklift, or dogging/rigging tickets desirable but not essential
  • Wire protection and control panels, marshalling kiosks, junction boxes, and communication cabinets.
  • Experience with test instruments (e.g. Omicron, Doble, Megger) advantageous but not essentia
  • First Aid / CPR / LVR certification desirable
