Field Technician III

Description

• Report to job sites on time, follow all safety protocols, and accurately record work time daily in accordance with company policies.
• Analyze and interpret test results, identifying potential compliance risks, inconsistencies, or issues and providing recommendations to project teams.
• Perform field testing on soil, concrete, asphalt, and environmental conditions, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain an assigned company vehicle, scheduling routine maintenance (oil changes, fluid levels, inspections) and ensuring general cleanliness and proper operation.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, field supervisors, and stakeholders, providing real-time status updates, issue reporting, and site observations.
• Serve as a field lead on assigned projects, coordinating field activities, ensuring efficiency, and maintaining compliance with company, client, and regulatory standards.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of testing equipment to maintain accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior field technicians, helping them develop their skills and understanding of field testing procedures, safety protocols, and best practices.
• Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures.
• Travel to project sites as required, which may include regional and/or overnight travel based on project needs.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients to troubleshoot challenges, recommend solutions, and ensure smooth field operations.
• Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, company policies, and OSHA guidelines, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment at all times.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to safely operate and maintain company vehicles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, technical documents, construction specifications, and safety manuals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Flexibility to work variable schedules, including early mornings, weekends, overtime, and overnight travel as required by project demands.
• Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to troubleshoot field issues and recommend solutions effectively.
• Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments.
• Flexibility to work variable schedules, including early mornings, weekends, overtime, and potential overnight travel based on project demands.
• Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vison, depth vision, and ability to focus) smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit).
• Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
• This position requires extensive travel, approximately up to 70% of the time, in support of business
• 5+ years of field-based experience in materials testing, construction inspection, geotechnical fieldwork, or a related industry.
• Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods.
• Proven ability to mentor, coach, and train junior team members, sharing expertise and best practices to enhance team efficiency and performance.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to lift and/or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety with knowledge of OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and company safety policies.
• Attention to detail to ensure precise sample collection, testing procedures, and documentation accuracy.
• Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
• Industry certifications such as ACI Level 1 Concrete Testing preferred or ability to obtain within a specified time period.
• Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training, associate degree, or coursework in construction, engineering, geology, or a related field preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software or similar industry tools.
• Excellent time management, organizational, and analytical skills, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in fieldwork, reporting, and inspections.
