Service Engineer

Description

The Fabric Maintenance Engineer in Reading will be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance across the site. The role includes general carpentry, fire‑door and alarm maintenance, AHU cleaning, basic plumbing, and a range of repairs to walls, floors, ceilings, and furnishings.

You will follow the company’s preventative‑maintenance (PPM) schedules, produce accurate technical reports, use provided technology systems to stay compliant, and communicate clearly with the team and clients. Out‑of‑hours call‑out support, timesheet accuracy, and participation in meetings are also required, as is managing sub‑contractors and adhering to health, safety, environmental and quality legislation.

• Perform general carpentry, repairs, and maintenance tasks.
• Conduct weekly fire‑door maintenance, fire alarm testing, and tap flushing.
• Clean and service AHUs and handle basic plumbing and drainage repairs.
• Repair walls, floors, suspended ceilings, and perform painting & decorating.
• Manage shelving, racking, and lock changes/repairs.
• Execute planned and reactive maintenance according to PPM schedules.
• Produce technical and situational reports accurately and promptly.
• Utilize technology systems to ensure contractual compliance.
• Communicate clearly with team members and clients; provide out‑of‑hours support.
• Assist in quotation preparation and manage sub‑contractors on site.
• Follow health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation at all times.
• Submit accurate weekly timesheets and attend required meetings.

Requirements

Essential qualifications include a Fabric Engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent), C&G Pts. 1 & 2, and proven post‑apprenticeship practical experience. Strong communication, interpersonal, IT and report‑writing skills, the ability to work flexible hours, overtime and under pressure, and a commitment to high‑quality service are also required.

• Hold a Fabric Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
• Possess C&G Pts. 1 & 2 (or higher) and proven post‑apprenticeship experience.
• Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, IT, and report‑writing skills.
• Work flexibly, including overtime, and maintain composure under pressure.
