Director of Preconstruction - Commercial Construction Experience

Description

We are seeking a Director of Preconstruction & Estimating to lead and grow the preconstruction function for a dynamic commercial construction portfolio. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for overseeing all preconstruction and estimating activities across public, private, and alternative delivery projects.

• Drive continuous improvement in estimating technology, software, and workflows
• Oversee conceptual through detailed estimating, GMP development, and value engineering
• Support strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, and long-term growth initiatives
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of cost data and maintain consistent, competitive preconstruction deliverables
• Collaborate with project managers, design teams, and owners to ensure successful project outcomes
• Lead client presentations, negotiations, and support business development efforts
• Lead and manage the preconstruction and estimating team, including recruiting, mentoring, and professional development
• Provide cost and constructability feedback during early project planning
• Establish and maintain preconstruction processes, standards, and best practices across all market sectors
• Lead a high-visibility preconstruction team with influence over major project pursuits

Requirements

• Excellent communication, client relationship, and problem-solving skills
• Strong experience with design/build, GC/CM, and alternative delivery methods
• Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, market pricing, and subcontractor relationships
• Bachelor’s degree in construction or related field
• 10+ years of commercial construction experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing preconstruction and estimating
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction management software; experience with Cost OS or similar estimating software a plus
• Proven leadership skills, with experience building and mentoring teams
