The Heavy Equipment Technician performs repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, compact heavy equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks, covering preventative maintenance inspections, hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brakes, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems.
The role requires advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems, perform repairs on electrical, diesel and gasoline vehicles such as compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders, and work on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulic, brake, electrical, suspension, wheels, tires, and undercarriages. The technician reads and interprets equipment condition reports and repair orders, communicates with supervisors and operators, documents parts usage and work order times, completes daily consumables reports, and analyzes oil samples and fleet data while following all safety policies and performing engine overhauls.
Qualifications include advanced expertise in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrain, suspension, steering, and wheel‑end components, demonstrated by ASE certification. Candidates must have at least one year of heavy‑equipment technician experience, a mechanical trade school certificate or degree, an electrical diagnostics certificate, applicable ASE certifications, working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems, and welding or fabrication skills.
Minimum requirements call for at least one year of experience applying OSHA Haz Com, Lockout/Tagout, and fire‑protection regulations in a technician position.
