The Safety & Health Technician is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of teammates, contractors, visitors and Nucor property, providing professional safety, health, and security support to foster a culture that values safety above all else.
- Patrol the plant for suspicious or unusual activity and perform security tours using GuardTek.
- Maintain site security and enforce traffic regulations, issuing citations as needed.
- Escort unruly visitors or suspended teammates from the plant.
- Respond to medical calls, administer first aid and CPR when required.
- Respond to incidents and assist in completing incident reports.
- Act as the HAZMAT First Responder to hazardous material spills.
- Use various respirators and adhere to CAL‑OSHA respirator grooming standards.
- Operate fire suppression, HAZMAT, security, and medical equipment.
- Maintain appearance and upkeep of all plant protection equipment and facilities.
- Inspect, service, and repair fire extinguishers; prepare them for vendor servicing when necessary.
- Assist with inspection of fire extinguisher systems and confined space rescues.
- Lead contractor safety briefings and CPR/First Aid training.
- Assist in teammate health monitoring activities such as hearing and drug testing.
- Maintain routine activity reports, logs, and records.

Team members must be prepared to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and must be able to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid California driver’s license, relevant security officer experience, and certifications such as CPR, EMT, HAZWOPER, Hazardous Materials First Responder, Fire Extinguisher Servicing, BSIS Guard Card and Firefighter 1 Academy training.
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Security Officer experience with a good performance record (minimum six months).
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR Certification.
- California State EMT certification.
- California State Fire Marshal Fire Extinguisher Servicing License.
- California State BSIS Guard Card.
- 24‑hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Hazardous Materials First Responder (FRO) certificate.
- Firefighter 1 Academy training certificate.
